to the west. we call it a squall line because it's all lined up in a row. you typically don't get tornado warnings along a line of storms. when you get a couple storms that are out by themselves and they are supercells or they are called discrete and not part of another line behind it, those are cells that can rotate. here's the deal today. you can get a tornado warning and only get a few minutes warning on this storm. typically the weather service can put it out 20 minutes in advance. today the storms are spinning so quickly and then dying very quickly but in that three to five-mile window, that three to five-minute window is when the tornado can be on the ground. you have to pay attention and not just go i'll get to it when i get to it. i have to do something else. when you hear the siren or alarm for you, it's time to take cover now because you may only have just a few minutes today. that's how quickly the storms are coming and going. >> and for other people across the country, here up in new york area, we've had a 40-degree weather swing. it was 22 when i woke up yesterday. it's going

industrials, consumer discretionary are the market leaders to the downside for a second day in a row. however, i don't see heavy volume in the etfs associated with this, don't see signs that a lot of people are getting out and taking a lot of profits. i would note, however, home builders if you look at what the home builders are doing despite good numbers from pulte the numbers are down for a second day in a row and i do see some volume, i do see volume in the etfs associated with home builders that are a little bit above normal so i think people are generally starting to take some profits in the group. big problem there are the valuations. finally whirlpool great numbers overall and the 2013 guidance just knocked the cover off the ball. 9.25 to 9.75. the general estimates $9.15, $9.17. 31 and a dime, 31.20 are the indications and when you get that close that's an indication the stock is about to open and what you've got is people going back and forth putting in bids and offers here. there you can see the specialists right there. roberts standing right there, and this is an old-fashioned auct

, or did we already miss it? let's bring in cnbc's mary thompson. nice to see you. we're hoping we didn't miss it. if we look at the closing numbers, the dow, nasdaq, s&p, on a roll. the indices posting gains four weeks in a row. the dow and s&p reaching five-year highs on friday. is now the time to get in there and invest? >> you know, there are a lot of reasons to say yes. first of all, let's look at the u.s. economy. we've seen improving numbers in the housing markets. better numbers on unemployment. then globally, we've seen improvements, as well. notably, better manufacturing numbers out of china and germany, two big economies. and so that's one reason. another reason is corporate balance sheets are very clean, they paid off a lot of debt. lastly, there's money on the sidelines to come in. that could fuel a rally. of course, there are cons because it's not always good news. the first one is, and i think you have to be concerned with this, the outlook for the u.s. fiscal picture. that could be a problem, especially going into march or february when we have the debate in washington. th
